E-Cigarettes Poised to Save Medicaid Billions
Electronic cigarettes have garnered significant attention due to their potential to dramatically reduce the damaging health impacts of traditional cigarettes. Medicaid has been spending billions of dollars dealing with smoking related health issues. A recent study revealed that if smokers were to switch to electronic cigarettes, Medicaid would save billions of dollars because the majority of Medicaid recipients are smokers (51% smokers versus 21% non-smokers).
Based on the findings of the study on the impact of cigarette smoking on Medicaid spending, the potential savings of e-cig adoption, and the resulting tobacco smoking cessation and harm reduction, could have been up to $48 billion in Fiscal Year (FY) 2012.

CDC released first anti-smoking ad mentioning e-cigarettes; vaping advocate calls it dishonest
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its first anti-smoking ad citing electronic cigarettes on Monday. The that features a real life former smoker, is intended to warn against dual usage of e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes. According to CDC, the ad was inspired by a study that showed 75 percent of adults using e-cigarettes also used regular cigarettes. However, e-cigarette advocates called the ad dishonest because it gives the idea that electronic cigarettes cause lung cancer, which is misleading.
